Soos and the Real Girl marks my first episode storyboarding for Gravity Falls!

I was so nervous, I had no idea what I was doing back then. Thank goodness for our wonderful, hilarious director Matt Braly ( radrappy ) for being SO patient and so encouraging. Thank you Matt!!

On this episode, I board alongside the INCREDIBLE  Sabringa Cotugno ( arythusa ) and Alonso Ramirez. They’re both so insanely talented and kind. I was starstruck from day 1 and still am!

Enjoy the silly fruits of our labor!

Soos and the Real Girl premieres Monday, September 22 on Disney XD at 8:30 PM! Check your local listings!!!

I never understood this scene… I still haven’t, so if somebody wants to explain it to me, I’d be glad to read it!

I’ll tell you want I think! This happens after Utena has discovered Anthy has been “having sex” with Akio (I’m going to put that in scare quotes because what 14 year old Utena at first sees this not as abuse but as an affair). She’s felt betrayed and upset, like Anthy has broken trust with her.

And then you have Anthy who sees that Akio is “winning.” He’s getting Utena under his thumb, playing on Utena’s young and naive understanding of love. Utena thinks that sex and dates and attention are a sign of love and doesn’t yet realize that she’s being played by him. but Anthy knows, and she’s helping Akio, knows that if Utena makes it to the tower that she’ll betray her. She’s been the one in the background letting this happen to Utena. She’s being crushed under all this guilt that she has for what’s going on because she doesn’t want to hurt Utena. Still, she knows she will if it’s Akio’s will.

But Anthy wants to protect Utena, and she wants Utena to be triumphant. You can see little moments where she puts herself between Akio and Utena. She is the Rose Bride, and she can only rebel against her role in minor ways, she can’t really be honest about what she feels. Which is why all of Anthy’s little passive aggressive jibes at Akio (and others) is so important. It’s showing that Anthy is still *there* that she isn’t just a tool. But she’s too scared to ‘break out’ because she’s been the victim of some pretty intense abuse.

SO THIS SCENE: This is Anthy basically acknowledging that she has been a poison, that she has done harm to Utena. this is the prelude to the full forgiveness scene that will happen later. But Anthy doesn’t intend for there to be a later. She intends to kill herself after this. In an almost joking way, a way that if caught as being ‘serious’ she can back out of it, she’s trying to acknowledge that she’s hurt her, is actively hurting her, and trying to at least tell Utena she knows what she’s done before she goes to the tower.

And Utena is startled at first, upset as she tries to figure out if she’s being serious. then she shrugs and says back “Oh but I’ve been poisoning you too so whatever.” Then they both give each other this long moment of silence before they say “Oh but these poisoned items are so delicious.” A sort of “oh we’re both poisoning each other but we’ve both enjoyed it.” Not a full forgiveness by any means but I think it’s the build up to one. They’re both acknowledging they’re at fault (for different things of course). For Anthy, this is all the closure she expects to get because she’s going to kill herself- so after this moment she goes on to ask about the future, what Utena wants to do. Because she’s going to remove herself (a poison) from Utena’s life in hopes that she’ll escape the fate Akio intends (even though she’s already said in other moments that “I think all girls are like the Rose Bride”).

I feel like Utena’s return that she’s poisoning Anthy is where she’s finally starting to recognize, admit, and feel bad about what she’s done to Anthy- in the forgiveness scene after saving her from the edge of suicide she begs for Anthy’s forgiveness because she didn’t realize the pain she was in (wrt Akio) and she didn’t realize that SHE was treating Anthy like an object just like all the other duelists. Utena is finally starting to understand that she’s been using Anthy for her own ego and that her participation in the whole thing has hurt Anthy. This admittance and realization is so very important for Utena, because she needs to see that her “save the damsel” gig was anything but strictly innocent.

Police shoot teenage special-needs girl within 20 seconds of arriving to ‘help’

On June 3rd, 2014, the Serrano family was having difficulty with a young female family member who suffers from a mental illness and depression. Yanira Serrano-Garcia, 18, had apparently gone off of her medication and became agitated and hard to control.
“[Yanira] wanted to be normal. She wanted to stop taking her medication, and I get it. Sometimes when my feet hurt I just want to be normal. I don’t want to take pills. I get her…all we want is justice,” said a friend of Yanira’s during a community march.
“Sadly, they mistook her for something she didn’t do, and a cop decided to get his gun out when he could have gotten out his taser, his pepper spray,” she said.
“She has special needs and we just want answers,” said Yanira’s brother, Tiny Serrano. “Who are we supposed to call now when we need help when who is supposed to help us is killing our kids?”

I feel like I reblog this kind of stuff every single day… Same story, different names. And police always use the same fucking excuses because they’re trained in how to loophole the law.
